About

Hargraves Pipe Organs

Hargraves Pipe Organs recognises that every pipe organ is unique. Passion and respect for the integrity of each instrument and the vision of the original builder are central to our work, both within Australia and abroad.

In every aspect of our approach, whether tuning and maintenance, restoration, rebuilding or new instrument commissions, we are informed by the inherent musicality that each pipe organ possesses, rather than imposing a musical style, not in keeping with the instrument.  Instruments in our care are thoroughly researched and understood. Musicality and refinement of sound are paramount and are always carefully considered with respect to the building in which they are housed.

Hargraves Pipe Organs is committed to the finest quality of craftsmanship, maintaining a fully equipped workshop and voicing facilities.

Our company holds extensive training in traditional organ building techniques, drawing on 29 years of experience, giving us the ability to maximise the potential of each organ.

Campbell Hargraves, Director

Campbell holds almost 30 years of experience in the field of organ building, hailing from four generations of Organ Builders and Organists.

After a 13 year career with South Island Organ Company in New Zealand, Campbell relocated to Australia and spent 3 years working in high-end custom furniture design and construction. In 2000, he accepted the role of Factory Foreman and Trainer with Wakeley Organs. He established Hargraves Pipe Organs in 2011.

His extensive career has taken him all over New Zealand and Australia, wherein his role representing SIOC, he has been instrumental in the restoration and ongoing maintenance of many organs of significance, including the Wellington & Dunedin Town Hall organs, and the organs of St Mary’s Star of the Sea, West Melbourne and St Patrick’s Basilica, Freemantle. For Wakeley Organs, Campbell has overseen the restoration of many organs of historical importance, including the Fincham & Hobday / Taylor organ of the Hawthorn Presbyterian Church, the Bevington organ of Holy Trinity Cathedral, Wangaratta, The Alfred Fuller organ of St John’s Heidelberg, and was responsible for the concept realisation of the experimental Morgan Fisher Organ.

Since establishing Hargraves Pipe Organs in 2011, Campbell is now able to focus his extensive understanding of the pipe organ upon a sensitive approach to the original and unique qualities of each instrument. It is this philosophy that lies at the centre of Hargraves Pipe Organs approach to organ building.
